The Martyrs will be looking to bounce back tonight after a defeat on the road against Hitchin Town last Saturday. The Canaries picked up the 3 points in what was our 4th league defeat in 5 games.
Merthyr still find themselves just a few points behind the play-off positions despite their recent run of form but Gavin Williams will certainly looking at tonight's match against Stratford Town as the ideal opportunity to secure a much need victory and an injection of confidence into his squad.
Stratford Town currently find themselves in 19th position but with one relegation spot in contention this season, the 'Town' already have a 13 point lead over Gosport Borough, sitting at the bottom of the pile. Stratford have also had a difficult time on the road this season, with just a single victory to their away record on the opening day of the season against Royston Town. If recent Tuesday night fixtures at Penydarren Park are anything to go by, The Martyrs won't be paying too much attention to Stratford's current away form and The Martyrs will be aiming to keep that record going.
The last time both teams met was back in August when 'The Town' managed to pull back a 2 goal deficit against The Martyrs and steal a point. Edwin Ahenkorah was one on hand with one assist and a goal to his name that night in August and with 6 goals this season, he could be Stratford's danger man once again. Jaz Luckie has also has had a prolific season for 'The Town', scoring 10 goals in league and cup competition.
Ashley Evans, Ian Traylor and Curtis McDonald all managed to pass late fitness tests ahead of last Saturday's match against Hitchin Town and all three players are currently expected to be in the squad this evening.
