2-1
Result:
The Meadow, Amy Lane, Chesham, Bucks, HP5 1NE
Match Report:
The double disappointment of losing to both Chesham United and Gosport Borough in the space of three days, was compounded by the fact that despite opening the scoring for the eleventh consecutive game, the Martyrs suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games.
With Liam Angel restored to the starting line-up and Josh Yorwerth making his full debut, Joe Woodiwiss was included as full back with Noah Smerdon pushed forward into midfield, in a 4-4-2 formation that commenced the game.
The first shot on target came from Gethyn Hill after 12 minutes who forced Zaki Oualah to make a good save. Once again it was the effervescent Tom Handley with his eleventh goal of the season after 24 minutes who struck first, taking advantage of Noah Smerdon's assist.
The lead lasted fourteen minutes with a route one ball flicked on, Jaimie Cogman initially saved Zack Joseph's effort with his legs only to see the ball float up over his body and end up over the line in the back of the net.
With the scores level at the interval as conditions deteriorated and on a playing surface that was cutting up, the best chance of the second half fell to Alex Lafleur who spun and hit a left footed volley from the edge of the penalty area that struck the woodwork after an hour.
With the second half one of attrition it took a penalty from substitute Ricardo German to ultimately separate the sides. A foul by Gethyn Hill presented the Chesham leading goal scorer with the opportunity to provide the home side with the lead with just fifteen minutes remaining and although Jaimie Cogman went the right way he was unable to make the crucial save. That basically settled the outcome in a hard fought encounter at the Meadow Stadium.
Chesham now remain unbeaten in their last eight games.
