Hayes & Yeading United v Merthyr Town
21 October 2023
Kick Off:
15:00
1-1
Result:
Hayes & Yeading United Football Club, Beaconsfield Road, Hayes, UK
Match Report:
In a cagey opening of few clear-cut opportunities, newly appointed Hayes and Yeading manager Mark Moseley was given the ideal start on his return to the Club when Liam Angel was adjudged to have fouled Steve Ngunga on the edge of the penalty area and the referee awarded a spot kick after just 12 minutes, that was confidently converted by Norman Wabo.
Soon after there was a long delay while Hayes and Yeading’s goalkeeper Jacob Adams received treatment after colliding with one of his own players. After he was forced to temporarily leave the field of play, Liam Angel redeemed himself from the earlier misdemeanour when he rose the highest to score the equaliser with a powerful downward header perfectly placed in the bottom corner, on his 50th appearance for the Club.
However, neither side was able to completely take effective control of the game, although the
Martyrs had two attempts cleared from the six yard box as half time arrived with the scores locked at one each.
The final was 45 minutes was relatively incident free with chances very few and far between for either team. Both sides never really hitting top gear as they cancelled each other out, the Martyrs evidently content to hold onto their hard earned point, although in the final five minutes they had Jamie Cogman to thank who was forced to make a top class save to keep the scores level.
The lack of a second goal for either side kept the game competitive until the final whistle as the game ended in a stalemate.
