Glamorgan Player and Welsh International Become Owners of MTFC
24 June 2023
With over 135 owners already signing up ahead of the 2023/24 season, it was fantastic to see Joe Morrell become a lifetime owner of the football club recently. Morrell made the commitment of becoming a lifetime owner of the Martyrs, which will see him be a shareholder of the society for life, as well as enjoying the ownership benefits provided by the club. Joe visited Penydarren Park on a number of occasions last season, and we look forward to him visiting again during the 2023/24 season.
Earlier this week, we also welcomed Glamorgan Cricket player, Chris Cooke, as an owner of Merthyr Town Football Club ahead of the 2023/24 season. Chris Cooke hit Glamorgan's fastest-ever T20 century off just 38 balls as they beat Middlesex by 29 runs in a run feast at Northwood on 31st May 2023. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Chris has become a Glammy favourite since he joined the club in 2011, and earlier this week he became an owner of Merthyr Town Football Club . Speaking on becoming an owner, Cooke said, “I have played for Glamorgan since 2011. I was born in South Africa but have loved living in Wales and playing for Glamorgan since joining in 2011. A few of the lads went to watch Merthyr Town last season, and Mark Walton from Merthyr is our Junior player academy coach and player mentor. I also got talking to @PutneyMartyr who I know well and I decided to become an owner of the the Martyrs ahead of the 2023/24 season, I am looking forward to coming to Penydarren Park to watch a game next season!’
