Injury Update - Sponsored by Nuffield Health
21 February 2025
This weekend Lee Lucas and Callum Ryan-Phillips will return to the squad after ankle and knee injuries respectively. Aneurin Livermore is also available after suspension but has been ill towards the end of the week, so we will assess Aneurin further today as to whether he can be involved tomorrow.
Alex John continues to make good progress after ankle surgery with the support of the physios and consultants at Nuffield Health, so he expects to contribute to the final month of the season. Matthew Harris continues to explore whether he can also return for April as he steps up his rehabilitation this week.
Two players picked up injuries at Wimborne with contrasting results. Tom Handley had an x-ray on Saturday night after a heavy challenge left him on crutches, fortunately there was no break and despite heavy swelling and bruising to his Tibia, Tom came through training last night and will be available for Saturday’s squad. In contrast, Kiban Rai has had a scan on his ankle following the heavy challenge that saw him substituted early at Wimborne. This has revealed a grade 3 ankle ligament tear which is likely to have ended his season. Kiban is under the care of his parent club, Newport County, and will meet a specialist today, however it is likely that he will require the same operation that Alex John underwent recently in order to ensure he comes back stronger. Pending this consultation Kiban hopes to support the boys and everyone at Merthyr Town, staff, players and supporters wish Kiban a swift and full recovery.
