NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Title) Fan Ownership 2 March 2024 Who owns MTFC Just our fans, who are all ordinary supporters and membership is still growing. No venture capitalists. No investment funds. Just supporters from the terraces of MTFC. Does fan ownership work? Yes. We’ve been fan owned since 2010 and everyone is proud of that fact. It’s difficult to compete against clubs with benefactors but the club has been in existence since 1908; the same problems have always existed, many other clubs have risen and subsequently been lost, changed their names and re-formed - we’re still here. Fan ownership has been on the rise across Europe with many supporters preferring to run clubs in the interests of fellow supporters. Football is for our local community. How does membership work? When you become a member of MTFC, you immediately become a part-owner of the club with an equal say with all of the other owners on the principle of ‘one member, one vote’. As a member you are guaranteed to be involved in the decision making process of the Club. You participate in any of the voting processes, you will receive discounts of drinks purchased in the Club, priority for FA Cup tickets, priority for booking travel to away games and for other events held at the Club (Christmas Grotto, Player of the Year presentation, etc), you will be invited to attend the AGM and Special General meetings, members receive copies of the regular monthly Board meeting minutes. Why is membership important? It provides the very foundations of our Club, and the reason for our existence. Ultimately, members are the custodians of our club with a duty to ensure it passes to the next generation. The more members we have, the more we can achieve collectively. Not For Profit Merthyr Town Football Club is a social enterprise run on a not for profit basis. All income raised is reinvested in running the club, providing services for members and carrying out community work. What is expected of me as a member? Active citizenship (volunteering) is the cornerstone of our club ethos. Without our volunteers, the club could simply not function. Apart from saving the club large amounts of expenditure, it also creates an environment of participation and demonstrates equal ownership of the club. We have volunteers on match days, working on community projects, helping with the annual Football Festival, running the Walking Football sessions and a range of other tasks that are required to be performed on a regular basis. They are all an integral part of what makes MTFC tick. Do you have a few spare hours and would like to volunteer? Do you have a specific skill that we could use? It can be really rewarding and you are helping your Club. Email events@merthyrtownfc.co.uk and we’ll get in touch. Previous Next

NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Item) LED Floodlights 5 March 2024 Another objective in the Board’s 5-year Strategic Development Plan will be achieved in the close season when the existing halogen floodlights will be replaced with a retrofit LED system. This has only been possible with thanks to a successful application approved by the Premier League Stadium Improvement fund, with matched funding from the National Lottery via Egin. Replacing the existing floodlights was the main recommendation of an Energy Survey carried out by Severn Wye Energy Agency, that will help to reduce our CO2 emissions by 7.3 tonnes per year and make savings in our annual energy consumption costs. Advantages of LED System Some LED systems will consume 50% less energy than a halogen system – that will help to reduce our monthly electricity bills at a time when we will be seeking to replace our existing energy supplier. Less maintenance is required with LED systems. We will be able to control the LUX value and turn off 50% of the floodlights for all half pitch use, resulting in reduced consumption and CO2 emissions, plus protecting the environment. It provides us with the ability to immediately switch lights on and off, without a warm-up or cool-down period. Installing the LED lights will help to lower both our maintenance & running costs, while minimising the impact they have on the environment as another part of our Green Energy Strategy. Previous Next
