NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Title) Become a Member Now! 7 June 2024 Who owns MTFC Our fans, who are all ordinary supporters and membership is still growing. There are no benefactors. No venture capitalists. No investment funds. Just supporters from the terraces of MTFC. Does fan ownership work? We’ve been fan owned since 2010 and everyone is proud of that fact. It’s difficult to compete against clubs with benefactors but the club has been in existence since 1908; the same problems have always existed, many other clubs have risen and subsequently been lost, changed their names and re-formed - we’re still here. Fan ownership has been on the rise across Europe with many supporters preferring to run clubs in the interests of fellow supporters. Football is for our local community. How does membership work? When you become a member of MTFC, you immediately become a part-owner of the club with an equal say with all of the other owners on the democratic principle of ‘one member, one vote’ . As a member you are guaranteed to be involved in the decision making process of the Club. You are eligible to stand to be elected to the Board, you participate in the voting process to select Board Members, you will receive discounts on drinks purchased at the Club, priority for FA Cup tickets, priority for booking travel to away games and for other events held at the Club (Christmas Grotto, Player of the Year presentation, etc), you will be invited to attend the AGM and Special General meetings, you will be invited to complete member satisfaction surveys and receive copies of the regular monthly Board meeting minutes. You can become a member by downloading and completing this form and then using this link to purchase a membership that lasts for twelve months. Why is membership important? It provides the very foundations of our Club, and the reason for our existence. Ultimately, members are the custodians of our club with a duty to ensure it passes to the next generation. The more members we have, the more we can achieve collectively. What is expected of me as a member? Active citizenship is the cornerstone of our club ethos. Participation in the way that the Club is run. Many of our members are also volunteers. In addition to saving the club large amounts of expenditure, it also creates an environment of participation and demonstrates equal ownership of the club. We have volunteers on match days, working on community projects, helping with the annual Football Festival, running the weekly Soccalot draw and a range of other tasks that are required to be performed on a regular basis. They are all an integral part of what makes MTFC tick. Do you want to volunteer? Email events@merthyrtownfc.co.uk and we’ll get in touch. Previous Next

NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Title) Post Match Interview - MartyrsTV 25 October 2023 Paul Michael spoke to Martyrs TV after the disappointing defeat against Winchester City. "There were times when we were very, very good but without putting the ball into the back of the net. At any level you have to put the ball in the net. We created so many opportunities tonight and we just didn’t take them. The amount of times we’ve gone in on goal and didn’t hit the target or shot straight at the keeper. The difference is we are not taking enough opportunities compared to the start of the season. It’s the same players that were playing then that were taking the opportunities." When asked what he said at half time, "Keep calm, keep playing the way we are, continue to play our game we believed we would take the chances on the balance of probabilities. That pressure and those moments when they score, come from not taking our opportunities." Previous Next

NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Title) FAW Fair Play Weekend 23 September 2023 Merthyr Town FC are supporting the ‘Football Association of Wales Fair Play Week’ which will run from Friday the 22nd of September to Sunday 1st of October and reinforces the importance of mutual respect on and off the pitch and encourages a reduction in on-field misconduct. The ‘FAW Fair Play’ Code promotes the important message of ‘Fair Play’ throughout Welsh football, which aims to inspire Players, Clubs, Match Officials and Supporters to maintain good on-field discipline by abiding by the Laws of the Game, in addition to respecting all members of the Welsh Football Family. To further encourage respectful behaviour that aligns to the ‘FAW Fair Play’ Code, the FAW incentivises and rewards clubs who are taking a proactive role in reducing on-field misconduct. To achieve this, each month, the FAW publishes National Leagues Fair Play Tables and the Clubs who top their respective Fair Play table at the end of the season are awarded a Fair Play Award and a prize of £1000 that is available to be spent on improving their Club. We will be commemorating the ‘FAW Fair Play’ week by displaying ‘FAW Fair Play’ pennants at this afternoon's game against Gosport Borough. The FAW’s Disciplinary Manager, Margaret Barnett said: “The FAW’s Fair Play Campaign Week is important to further promote the Fair Play message and to remind everyone involved in football, whether that is the Players, Match Officials, Coaches or Supporters, the importance of being respectful to one another. At the FAW we are incredibly grateful to our Clubs and individuals for supporting this campaign across previous seasons.” You can find more information at faw.cymru/fair-play Previous Next

NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Title) Club Remembrance Service 11 November 2023 David Powell, Club Chaplain, led a remembrance service at the stadium on Saturday morning as supporters and Board members gathered to pay their respects. "As we gather, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, to share in the Act of Remembrance for all who have suffered in the cause of freedom, both military and civilian, in wars past and present. We especially remember the Merthyr Town players, who fought and sadly died in that catastrophic war – William Kirby, Jabez Cartwright, Frank Costello and Stanley Reed. A memorial dedicated to those and all who fell is displayed here this morning. During the First World War a poem was penned by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of a fellow soldier and friend, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. According to legend, fellow soldiers retrieved the poem after McCrae, initially dissatisfied with his work, discarded it. "In Flanders Fields" was first published on December 8 of that year and the title relates to a common name of the World War I battlefields in Belgium and France. " In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. NEWS Merthyr Town FC < Back News (News-Item) LED Floodlights 5 March 2024 Another objective in the Board’s 5-year Strategic Development Plan will be achieved in the close season when the existing halogen floodlights will be replaced with a retrofit LED system. This has only been possible with thanks to a successful application approved by the Premier League Stadium Improvement fund, with matched funding from the National Lottery via Egin. Replacing the existing floodlights was the main recommendation of an Energy Survey carried out by Severn Wye Energy Agency, that will help to reduce our CO2 emissions by 7.3 tonnes per year and make savings in our annual energy consumption costs. Advantages of LED System Some LED systems will consume 50% less energy than a halogen system – that will help to reduce our monthly electricity bills at a time when we will be seeking to replace our existing energy supplier. Less maintenance is required with LED systems. We will be able to control the LUX value and turn off 50% of the floodlights for all half pitch use, resulting in reduced consumption and CO2 emissions, plus protecting the environment. It provides us with the ability to immediately switch lights on and off, without a warm-up or cool-down period. Installing the LED lights will help to lower both our maintenance & running costs, while minimising the impact they have on the environment as another part of our Green Energy Strategy. Previous Next
